Three products, three users
Wix: owner-operator, apps (bookings, events), one bill. Framer: marketed as design-to-site with excellent visuals. Webflow: designer CMS, interactions, more production discipline.
If your user is not on that list — for example a hospital content team — you are shopping in the wrong aisle. Go to WordPress or Next.js.
The user who should not be in the editor
Founders who break layouts on Wix, or marketers who treat Framer like PowerPoint. Builders still need rules. Untrained editing is not a feature.
Wix: breadth, speed, and the ceiling
Wix ships a business operating surface: site, bookings, simple blog, email, light store. For a salon in Velachery that needs a pretty site this month, it can be enough.
The ceiling is structure, export, and serious SEO/commerce. We have rebuilt enough Wix sites onto WordPress to know the smell: unstoppable widgets and unusable heading hierarchy.
When we tell SMEs to keep Wix
No developer budget, few pages, owner will click the editor, no catalogue. Spend on photos and Google Business Profile instead of a ₹28,000 rebuild you will not maintain.
Framer: motion, campaigns, and connector risk
Framer sites look like 2026. That is the pitch. For a product launch or agency homepage, it can beat a tired WordPress theme on first impression.
Risk: CMS depth versus WordPress, performance if motion is unbudgeted, and Shopify/Frameship-style sync bugs (products without price or cart). We fix those from the Shopify side more often than we bless the connector. Native Shopify or a Framer marketing site without a fake cart is cleaner.
Framer as a landing factory
Campaign pages can live in Framer while the company site stays WordPress. Or skip Framer and buy Landing Pages from ₹7,500 if you do not have a Framer designer on staff.
Webflow: structure, CMS, and talent scarcity
Webflow’s collection CMS and embed control make it the “serious” builder. Designer-developers who know it well can ship marketing sites that feel handmade.
In India, that talent is thinner than WordPress. If your Webflow hero leaves, you may wait. Confirm a maintenance path — in-house, a named freelancer, or a planned export to Next.js.
Webflow Client-First versus chaos
A class system and documentation decide whether a second designer can work. Pretty interactions without a system become uneditable sculpture.
SEO, speed, and Indian mobile networks
All three can rank. All three can fail CWV on a ₹12,000 Android in Madurai heat. Test on real devices. Hero Lottie on 4G is not “premium”; it is bounce.
Technical SEO still needs humans: titles, internal links, indexation. Buy SEO as work. Builder blogs with three thin posts will not save you.
Heading soup on Wix
Visual editors encourage every large text to become an H1. That is an SEO defect we fix on migrations. Demand a heading outline before launch.
CMS and localisation (including Tamil)
Webflow collections are strong for structured case studies. Framer CMS has improved; still not WordPress. Wix blogging is fine for occasional updates.
Tamil + English sites need font and layout testing. Builders can do it; your editor must actually type Tamil, not screenshot WhatsApp messages as images.
Membership and gated content
Possible with native or third-party tools on all three, with different pain. Serious membership often means custom or WordPress. Do not pick Framer for a course campus.
E-commerce: stop asking builders to be Shopify
Wix Stores: small catalogues only. Webflow Ecommerce: limited Indian payment reality versus Shopify. Framer: design layer, not ops. For stores, Shopify Development from ₹38,000.
If you already bought Framer and a connector, diagnose sync before another theme. Products without add-to-cart is not a “tweak”; it is architecture.
Bookings are not commerce
Wix bookings for a clinic can be valid. That is appointments, not SKUs. Do not generalise it to a fashion store.
Pricing, GST, and designer retainers
SaaS plans bill in dollars plus GST. Add the human: Wix owners self-serve; Framer/Webflow usually need a designer. Year-two designer hours dominate TCO in Chennai agencies we see.
Compare against Brevia: business site ₹28,000 you own; custom from ₹50,000; static ₹18,000. A builder can still win if your team is already fluent. It loses if you are renting a designer forever to change an address.
Plan limits that bite mid-campaign
Form caps, CMS item limits, and bandwidth surprises appear during ads. Read plan ceilings before you scale Meta spend to a Framer page.
Leaving the builder: export myths
Webflow’s export is a start, not a living CMS. Wix export is not a strategy. Framer is hosted gravity. Budget a proper static or Next.js rebuild when you outgrow.
Redirects, pixels, and content inventory matter more than “we will download the HTML.” Treat exit as a project.
When not to leave
If the site works, the team is fluent, and GMV/leads are fine, stay. Migration for ideology is how you lose a quarter of SEO.
Decision grid we use on discovery calls
Owner-only, few pages: Wix. Designer on staff, marketing site: Framer or Webflow (Webflow if CMS collections matter). Editors and long content: WordPress. Engineering and ownership: Next.js. Orders: Shopify.

A pair we often recommend
Webflow or Framer for the brand story, Shopify for the shop, no connector gymnastics. Two URLs, two jobs, fewer 2 a.m. sync tickets.
A pair we rarely recommend
Wix + custom checkout scripts, or Framer as the only storefront for 200 SKUs. That is how festive weeks break. Pick the commerce OS.
