Prototype jobs: sell, test, align
Sell: show a founder or a buyer the path. Test: put it on a phone and watch. Align: end the argument about step order before CSS. If you are doing none of those, a prototype is theatre.
Happy-path-only prototypes sell. Include OTP fail, empty calendar, and payment pending if engineering will trust the file.
Finished UI jobs: build and brand
Spacing, type, components, states, assets at export size. This is what website and Next.js teams actually implement. A prototype without this still leaves developers designing in the browser.
Finished UI without a tested path is a decorated guess. You will restyle after the first real user.
Clickable Figma is not production CSS
Smart animate is not a performance budget. Prototype transitions that cannot ship should be marked as “motion intent,” not as a spec. Handoff notes prevent that lie: Figma to developers.
What to pay for first on a new product
Prototype the risky job (book, pay, onboard) in mid-to-high fidelity on mobile. Test with five users. Then finish UI for those screens. Do not high-fi Settings and About first because they are easy.
Research can be thin and still real: small-budget research.
What to pay for first on a known website rebuild
If analytics say the path works and the brand is tired, finished UI and performance may come first. If users get lost, prototype the new IA on a few frames before a visual reboot: redesign without full rebuild.
Ads landings with a known offer still benefit from a one-flow prototype on mobile before you scale spend.
Stakeholder theatre vs user tests
A board that only reacts to colour will demand finished UI too early. Give them one visual sample and keep the rest in a prototype they must click. Your receptionists and sales staff are better testers than the board for bookings.
Record the test. Arguments die faster when the video shows the tap that never happened.
When a prototype saves a ₹50,000 rebuild
Catching a three-step dead end in Figma is cheaper than catching it in production. That is the point of the pack floor. Cost context: how much UI/UX costs.
Combining both in one pack
Brevia’s default: wireframes, then a clickable prototype of the money path, then finished UI for the ~12 screens, then specs. You are not choosing a religion. You are choosing order.
Extra platforms and extra flows are extra packs. We will not pretend a marketplace is 12 frames.
How we sequence from Thousand Lights
Discovery call, screen list, brand check, then the sequence above. India-wide delivery. Engineering optional on the same team so the prototype is not an orphan.
Start: consultation or contact. Bring the job, not a Dribbble folder.
