Handoff from Figma to Developers Without Chaos

Figma-to-dev handoff for Indian teams: specs, tokens, naming, unhappy paths, PR review, and how a ₹50,000 UI/UX pack should land in Next.js without Slack archaeology.

The most expensive Indian design file is the one engineers interpret. A beautiful Figma with unnamed frames, no 320px, and a happy-path prototype becomes a week of Slack stickers: “which padding?” “what if GST is invalid?” Handoff is a product, not a share link.

This sits after you chose wireframes before visuals and decided what to pay for first. If those were skipped, chaos is scheduled.

We work from Chennai with in-house and client developers. The UI/UX Design Pack from ₹50,000 is meant to land in a repo, not a Dribbble shot. Binderr-length spec notes beat a 90-page PDF nobody opens.

If identity is still inconsistent, freeze branding from ₹25,000 before you tokenise a rainbow. Engineers should not invent a second logo mark.

Accessibility belongs in the spec: focus, labels, contrast — not a phase after QA rage.

Need a handoff on an existing file? Consultation with editor access. We will say if the file is salvageable or if you are paying for archaeology.

Specs developers actually open

One page: type scale, space scale, colour tokens, breakpoints, motion (usually none). Behaviour notes on the prototype, not a separate Confluence nobody reads.

Export icons as SVG with consistent viewBoxes. Raster logos at 2x are not a system.

A one-page spec beats a 90-page PDF nobody opens

Type, space, colour, breakpoints, and motion on a single Figma page. Long PDFs rot. Engineers search the file they already have open.

Tokens, variants, and the 1px argument

Decide 4 or 8pt grid and stop arguing. Variants for hover/disabled/loading. If you do not spec loading, you will get three different spinners.

A full design system is optional — when SMEs need one. Tokens are not optional past five screens.

Redlines versus auto-layout honesty

If the file is auto-layout, say “follow constraints,” not 37 redlines. If it is a pretty collage, admit it and redline the few screens that matter. Mixed files are the chaos source.

Responsive: show 360, 768, 1280 — not only a 1440 artboard for a Jio user.

Prototype the unhappy path, not just the Dribbble flow

OTP timeout, payment pending, no results, permission denied. Those screens are the product. Happy-path-only prototypes train engineers to invent errors.

Reviewing the first PR without a design-system religion

Sit on the staging URL. Check type, spacing, focus rings, and copy. Do not demand pixel-perfect shadows on a marketing WordPress if the CMS cannot support them — pick website constraints early.

Log issues as tickets, not voice notes. One QA pass is in the pack; a second visual identity is not.

It helps inspect. It does not replace a walkthrough of states, empty views, and breakpoints. Engineers still need a human for the “what happens if OTP fails” path.

The designer until the first production release, then a named maintainer. Orphan files drift. Put it in the brief.

Yes. Organised Figma is part of the UI/UX pack From ₹50,000. We do not hold files hostage.

No. Tokens or a documented palette. Screenshot sampling is how you get five greys. Design systems for SMEs.

At wireframe, not after hi-fi. Constraints (OTP vendor, CMS fields) arrive late otherwise — wireframes vs visuals.

Yes, with component maps to templates. Website builds still need specs; page builders without a kit become snowflakes.

Plan one implementation QA pass. Unlimited aesthetic tweaks after code exists are a new scope. Cost context: UI/UX pricing.

Record the handoff call. Written behaviour notes. Contact if you want Brevia on both design and Next.js so the gap shrinks.
