Jobs: discovery, trust, and filling the slot
Discovery is search and referrals. Trust is doctors, equipment, photos of the actual premises, and NAP that matches Maps. Filling the slot is calendar, reminders, and WhatsApp.
SaaS wins the third job out of the box. WordPress wins the first two if you treat it as a site, not a theme. Trying to make one tool do all three is how clinics bounce between vendors every year.
Write the weekly jobs on a whiteboard
If “change Saturday OT hours” is the weekly job, editors matter. If “reduce no-shows” is the weekly job, reminders matter. Fund the job, not the logo.
What a directory page will never own
Your URL, your content clusters, your ad landing, your analytics, your brand photography, and your ability to publish a camp page on Thursday. Directory UX is optimised for the directory.
Paid boosts on a marketplace are rent. A landing page at ₹7,500 for a vaccination drive is an asset you can reuse.
NAP consistency still matters
If the SaaS address, the WordPress footer, and Google Business Profile disagree, you sabotage local pack. Align them on purpose.
WordPress as the clinic’s owned media
Speciality pages, doctor bios with real credentials, location pages that are not doorway spam, and a blog you only write when you have something true to say. Editors at the front desk can update after a handover — if you do not install 40 plugins.
Forms to WhatsApp or a CRM beat “email us.” Missed form emails are how leads rot. We wire this on WordPress as part of a business-site build.
Templates versus 12 unique doctor pages
A system for doctors and locations scales. Copy-pasted Elementor pages do not. If you will add three centres, design the pattern now.
Booking SaaS: when the calendar is the product
Multi-doctor calendars, SMS reminders, deposits, and a staff that already trained on the tool. Forcing that into a ₹2,000 WordPress plugin is cruelty to reception.
Read the contract: who owns the patient list, export, and what happens to historical appointments if you leave. Pretty widgets are not an exit plan.
WhatsApp is still the real inbox
Many Indian patients will ignore the widget and chat. Your site should click-to-WhatsApp with context (speciality, location). SaaS that cannot live beside chat will be bypassed.
The hybrid that actually ships
Owned site for trust and SEO. SaaS for slots. One primary CTA per template. Do not put six booking buttons fighting a phone number fighting a chat bubble. Mobile-first clinics fail here — why SMEs still fail.
Embed lightly. If the widget tanks LCP, link out to a fast booking URL. Speed is respect for a patient on Jio in traffic.
Ads should not land on a directory
You pay for clicks into a page you do not control. Land on your speciality URL or a campaign landing page, then pass to booking.
SEO for clinics without writing fake disease novels
Service + locality pages with real facts, FAQs patients actually ask at the desk, and schema that matches reality. Monthly SEO from ₹15,000/mo is for that labour — not for spinning Wikipedia.
Reviews live on Maps and sometimes on the SaaS. Display them honestly. Buying reviews is not a Brevia service and not a strategy we will implement.
Tamil and English without duplicate junk
Translate pages patients use: directions, specialities, prep instructions. Do not auto-translate clinical nuance. Multilingual guide.
Compliance, claims, and photography
Before/after galleries, miracle copy, and stock photos of European corridors are how clinics look untrustworthy. Use the premises. Get consent. Keep medical claims conservative. We will push back in copy review.
GST and invoices matter if you sell packages online. Most clinics take payment at desk; still put legal name and GSTIN where you collect online fees — GST-ready sites.
Staff photos beat stock
Patients look for the doctor they met. A theme of smiling strangers is a bounce. Budget a half-day shoot, not another plugin.
Cost: SaaS rent versus a site you keep
Directory boosts and SaaS seats are monthly. The website is OTP plus hosting plus optional SEO. Compare 24-month totals. A ₹28,000 site that you ignore still beats rent you cannot export.
Do not buy an e-commerce package for a clinic. If you sell a few retail SKUs (braces kits, etc.), that is a separate small cart conversation — usually not Shopify-first.
Maintenance is part of WordPress cost
Updates, backups, uptime. Abandoned clinic WordPress is a malware story. Read WordPress maintenance before you choose WP to “save SaaS fees.”
Decision rule from our Chennai calls
Single doctor, no content appetite, already converting from a marketplace: keep SaaS, add a thin owned site when ads start. Multi-speciality or multi-location: WordPress (or Next.js if productised) plus booking, not instead of it.
If the founder wants “an app,” start with a fast mobile website. Native apps are a different budget. Consult before you buy a play store listing.
One question that ends the meeting
“If Practo vanished tomorrow, could a patient still find hours, doctors, and a way to book?” If no, you do not own your demand.
How Brevia scopes a clinic build
Sitemap of specialities and locations, CTA map, which SaaS to embed or link, WhatsApp routing, and a content freeze on medical claims. Package on Website Development. SEO only with a writer who will not invent studies.
We will refuse a 40-page doorway city campaign. We will ship a clear site reception can update. Contact Us from Chennai HQ.
Bring the existing logins
GBP, domain, hosting, booking SaaS. Duplicate properties are how clinics pay twice for the same lead.
