Why “website in 24 hours” ads exist — and who they hurt
Template marketplaces made a 24-hour demo easy. Indian buyers then discover the contact form emails nobody, the About page is lorem, and the mobile menu covers the CTA.
Speed is ethical when scope is a lander with copy in hand. Speed is fraud when the ad shows a corporate portal. Ask what will be true on day two: your words, or theirs.
Same-day is a demo, not a handover
Handover needs DNS, analytics, and a login you own. That is hours even after pages “look done.” Domain reality: custom domain and email.
Discovery and content are the real clock
We cannot typeset a services page you have not decided. Competitors you admire, offers, and exclusions (“we do not do X”) save days of revision.
Photography and GSTIN/address are content. So is the WhatsApp number that is actually monitored. Missing those pauses the build more than a CSS bug.
A content freeze beats a colour debate
Lock page list and headlines before polish. Recolouring a moving sitemap is how three weeks become nine.
Landing page timelines when copy is ready
With offer, proof bullets, and CTA decided, a lander at ₹7,500 is measured in days: layout, mobile, form test, UTM. Without copy, it waits like any other page.
Paid media teams should book the lander before the ad account spend ramps — not the Thursday before a sale. See landing vs full website.
Legal one-liners still take a day
Privacy link, refund hint, and who the advertiser is. Skipping them to “launch tonight” creates Monday compliance panic.
Business website timelines — weeks, not a mystery quarter
A 6–10 page business site at ₹28,000 typically needs a week of IA/design rhythm and a week of build/QA if feedback is prompt. Your idle time sits between those.
WordPress adds CMS training at the end. Skip training and you will spend week five undoing editor damage.
Revision rounds are calendar, not vibes
Two structured rounds. Unbounded “send a reel of inspiration” is an open ticket. Put round dates in the SOW.
Stores and custom work stretch because ops and code are real
Shopify from ₹38,000 still needs products, variants, shipping, taxes, and a test order on UPI. That is operations. We cannot invent your SKU sheet.
Custom from ₹50,000 includes engineering slices that cannot be fully parallel if APIs are undefined. Scope the MVP like software, not like a brochure with extra adjectives.
Test orders are on the critical path
A store is not launched when the theme is pretty. It is launched when a rupee payment, invoice, and email/WhatsApp confirmation work.
Approvals, travel, and festivals — the India-specific pauses
Founders fly for factory visits. Joint families approve colours in a group chat. Diwali weeks empty inboxes. Put blackout dates in the kickoff.
One approver with a deputy. Five equal opinions is not culture — it is delay. We will say so on a consultation.
Financial year and audit season
CAs and manufacturers vanish in April–May and around GST filing crunches. Schedule content collection before those windows.
Parallel work that actually saves days — and fake parallelism
Real: domain/email setup while wireframes happen; photography while interior pages are built from copy. Fake: developing checkout while the catalogue model is unknown; writing SEO blogs before IA exists.
SEO retainers start after URLs are stable enough to not 404. Technical hygiene can start in build. Content calendar is not week-one magic.
Domain delays are optional
Buy or transfer the domain in week one. Waiting until “design is ready” adds DNS lag you did not need.
Typical delays we see on Chennai-led projects
Logo in JPG on a white rectangle. No service list, only a tagline. “We will send GST later.” Competing quotes still open, so nobody wants to freeze copy. Stack still undecided.
Redesigns of existing sites wait on redirect maps and analytics access. Rebuilds wait on content salvage. See redesign vs rebuild.
- Content not in a shared doc
- Approver travelling without a deputy
- Hosting login with a departed vendor
- Scope growing every feedback call
Scope creep is a timeline bug
“Also add a career portal” is a new project. Park it. Shipping the brochure on time beats a half portal.
The calendar we actually use from Thousand Lights
Kickoff → sitemap sign-off → content gate → design rhythm → build → QA on mobile → handover of DNS/analytics. Each gate has an owner: you or us.
India-wide delivery does not add courier time for websites. It adds timezone-friendly reviews. On-site shoots add days if you want them.
What “done” means in the SOW
HTTPS, forms to a watched inbox, admin access in your email, and a change log. Not “looks nice on the designer’s MacBook.”
How to start the clock without a 20-page RFP
Page list, job (leads/store/publish), deadline that is real (ad start, inauguration), and budget band. That is enough for a brief.
Then Book a Consultation or Contact Us. We will map SKU to calendar: ₹7,500 lander, ₹28,000 business site, ₹38,000 store, or custom from ₹50,000.
Deadlines we will refuse
“Need 40 unique SEO pages and a store by Friday.” That is three products. We will cut scope rather than lie about physics.
